FIMI: Leadership and Governance of Indigenous Women on the Global Agenda
International Indigenous Women's Forum (FIMI)
Country (ies): Global
Scope: Global
Year: 2025
01
CONTEXT
Within the framework of its 25th anniversary and a political window marked by high-level milestones such as CSW69, the regional anniversary in Lima, and COP30 in Belém do Pará, the International Indigenous Women's Forum (FIMI) established a strategic objective: to consolidate its global leadership in defending and promoting Indigenous Women's rights worldwide, gender equality, and the recognition of Indigenous rights. It was vital to ensure that financing, climate justice, and human rights agendas recognize the intersectionality and political contribution of Indigenous Women's ancestral knowledge, positioning them as strategic interlocutors.

02
CHALLENGE
Transforming the narrative of vulnerability surrounding Indigenous Women into one of political influence and leadership, positioning their demands as priorities in strategic spaces such as the CSW, their 25th anniversary, or COP30. The challenge was to articulate a representative narrative for Indigenous Women's organizations from various parts of the globe, capable of simultaneously influencing top-tier international media and government delegations participating in key scenarios.
03
SOLUTION
A high-precision communication strategy coupled with capacity transfer was designed, articulated across four pillars:
- Global advocacy campaigns: Development of three communication actions in international media and key international strategic scenarios, aligning messages, spokespersons, and tactics.
- International PR and Tier 1 media: Editorial relationship building and strategic management to position FIMI's leadership in international benchmark media, gaining visibility and creating windows of opportunity.
- Media intelligence for advocacy: Conversation analysis (climate justice, financing, rights) to define narrative frameworks and journalistic angles with the goal of capturing the attention of prioritized media and influencing decision-makers.
- Training for action: Design and facilitation of the techno-pedagogical model for the "Intercultural Communication for Political Advocacy" module within FIMI's Intercultural Research Certification Program. This included live virtual sessions and the development of an applied e-book featuring technical content, exercises, and ready-to-use tools.

04
IMPACT
Positioning results (based on monitoring and potential reach): The work elevated visibility and strengthened FIMI's positioning as a political actor.
- Editorial milestone in The Guardian: An editorial opportunity was managed in The Guardian, elevating five stories of Indigenous Women to the global discussion. The impact reached 86.6M readers, with a reported 100% positive sentiment, validating the strength of the territorial narrative.
- Critical volume of coverage: A remarkable volume of coverage was achieved with 130 journalistic articles published in 65 countries and 17 languages. The cumulative reach exceeded 430M potential readers.
- Verifiable narrative efficiency: Semantic analysis demonstrated that media frameworks of "Law and Government" were prioritized. This proves a real shift in perception: the role of Indigenous Women transitioned into legitimate political interlocutors before donors and States.
- Political capital at COP30: Positioning of the Global Summit and its demands, ensuring that the voices of Indigenous Women from the territory were cited in strategic international debates and commissions, securing their seat at the climate decision-making table.
